Let’s get into how to come-up with the ultimate blogging plan, to keep your Blog running, growing and thriving whilst you go through pregnancy, postpartum, and into motherhood, WITHOUT always having to be physically blogging.
We’ll be girl-talking about how to set-up your Blog to passively run for you, so you don’t feel like you have no option but to give-up your Blogging dreams for motherhood.
You CAN have both! It just takes some intention, some planning, and a strong AMBITION to get it done!
quick context
For quick context, I am 6-months pregnant writing this, but you will read this when I am about 2-weeks before my expected due date; about 3-months later! I’ll be getting into how I am creating content THIS far-ahead later on, in the “batching content” chapter.
I have created two blog posts recently that have touched-on my blogging consistency, schedule and time-management, which contains DIFFERENT content to the one I am about to share in this blog post:
all about identifying what is STOPPING you from being consistent with blogging, solutions and example-scenarios to help you introspect, along with my personal reasons, and how I changed my mindset.
More mindset-related, introspection-related, and targets self-awareness to problem-solve inconsistency with blogging
2. what happened when I stopped having a blogging schedule (I was SHOCKED!)
all about looking at your current time management for blogging, weighing out your time availability versus your priorities, using trial-and-error to discover what best suits your methodology (fixed vs more relaxed blogging schedule), dipping into how to stay accountable without a fixed blogging schedule, and why I personally stopped having a fixed Blogging schedule.
More time-management, organisational skills, and using experimentation to learn what type of blogging “schedule” you thrive best on.
I am here to continually provide you with fresh and NEW valuable content, so in THIS blog post, it will be all about BATCHING content ahead.
Using the time management and consistency tips, from my previous two blog posts above, to level-up our blogging strategy and get into batching content as far ahead as possible, to help make balancing blogging with pregnancy, and postpartum, much easier.
coming up with a plan
If you clicked on this blog post, chances are, you ALSO want to make sure you keep blogging ALL throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.
Now, pregnancy + postpartum + life with a newborn, comes with its own set of challenges that most of us will be experiencing for the very first time! (I’m about to be a first-time mum).
Managing all the novelty and adjusting to such a new, and demanding, role, will be something we will most-likely need some time to give ourselves grace, leaning into that learning process.
This all, to say that being a new mum will be quite time-consuming, or if not, there will be less quality of time-available to invest into our Blog business during this transition; whether it’s due to sleep deprivation, or trying to adjust to a new “normal”.
Combining both our ambition to stay on-track with blogging throughout pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, WITH a potential transitionary period into maternity, where we may not be able to show-up for our Blogs as much (or as recharged with creativity) as we wish, allows us to come up with a PLAN.
If you’re a planning Queen, like me, then you’ll feel like this is your element, but if not - don’t worry! I’m about to breakdown simple steps to keep you blogging throughout this whole maternity period of your life, without PHYSICALLY showing-up the whole time.
I’ll keep it simple, short and SWEET.
see what you’re working with
First step to your blogging game-plan, IS to see what you are working with.
“Where do you stand with your Blogging goals, and where do you stand with how you want to show-up for pregnancy/postpartum/motherhood?” And, “how can you combine both, with serenity and as little stress as possible?” Well, first:
Ask yourself, “where am I currently at with my Blog?”
If you are a beginner, and don’t yet HAVE a Blog, then you might be looking to: start and launch your Blog. (I have a quick and easy all-you-need-to-know guide in the blog post here!).
If you have a Blog set-up, but relatively new, then you might want to either: get content up-and-published OR you may want to work on creating a brand aesthetic that inspires trust, before you start creating content and marketing your Blog, to attract readers that want to stay for longer because of the design element.
If you have been Blogging for a while; have content, have a website design you like, then maybe you THEN want to: expand your Blogging strategy through its marketing. Maybe you want to start a Pinterest, to help promote your Blog (I have a blog post here breaking down how I made it to 1MILLION monthly views on Pinterest, in less than 1 year), or email marketing, to start growing your onw list of subscribers!
Getting clear on where you are at with your Blog, helps you figure out what is the next-best step, considering:
your Blogging goals, AND
your perspective of how you see your unique pregnancy, postpartum and new motherhood journey going
FOR EXAMPLE, this is how I personally see what I’m working with, across both blogging AND maternity:
My blogging goal of 2025 is to be approved by an ad agency, so I can get monetised for my blogging content (money earned by the relevant ads these agencies display on my Blog). Comment if you would like to see a blog post, speaking further in-depth about what is needed to get your Blog monetised and my personal plan to get there in 2025!
In terms of maternity, I have no idea what to expect as a first-time mum. I am preparing as much as possible to have a positive postpartum, and have some tips lined-up to try have an easy labour too, but you can just never predict certain things with a baby. THEREFORE, as a result, I would like to have no Blogging content or Blogging work around the time that might be hardest to show-up for my Blog; in a way that I would be proud of. This, for me, would be during:
final stages of pregnancy (month 8-to-9)
around expected due-date
for the first 3 months postpartum
As you can see, I am being VERY SPECIFIC as to my timeframe, so I that I can make CLEAR DECISIONS that reflect what I want to do, and establish a focused plan of how to get there.
Altogether, this means I have about 5 months (roughly) where I feel I might not be AS present on my Blog, due to managing final stages of pregnancy, labour, postpartum, and being a new mum.
Knowing my blogging goal + my stand on my maternity journey, allows me to cover the birds-eye view foundation of what I am working with, to now think ahead to the next step.
establishing your #1 priority with blogging
The second step to your blogging game-plan during pregnancy, IS to establish your #1 priority with Blogging.
Now that you have a clear-view on what you want out of Blogging, and maternity, (/what you are working with) you can go-on to start prioritising.
The core of prioritising is to inform you on what you should be using more of your energy on, that aligns with your goals and circumstances, so you can be more efficient and productive with the time you have available.
Of course though, just a quick disclaimer to say to honour your own needs regardless. This is simply my personal advice and what has worked for me, but each pregnancy and each woman is unique and incredible, and we cannot say that the same can be done or will work with all pregnant girlies.
I have already given a few examples, in the previous chapter, of what your potential priorities might be, given your current Blogging-status and goals. But, to further demonstrate what this second step may look like for you, this is how personally go about it:
FOR ME, since I know there is almost half-a-year (about 5 months) that I might not be able to show-up for my Blog, as I would like, but I ALSO do not want to stop showing-up consistently, my solution is to make sure my Blog will be running passively for me; whilst I manage pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood, as a new mum.
Therefore, my personal #1 priority to keep showing-up consistently on my Blog, throughout maternity, is content creation.
“How?“
Well, my answer is: I need to make sure I create content AHEAD of time for these months where I may not be actively Blogging.
Establishing my #1 priority with Blogging, that also aligns with my circumstances and how I want to show-up, and balance both, INFORMS ME that I need to focus more time and energy into batching content ahead of time.
batching content
The third step is all about executing your #1 priority. For me, this is batching content ahead!
Specifically, to align with my maternity preferences, or self-designated blogging maternity leave (if you will), batching content that would cover the 5-to-6 months that I will be more immersed into going-through the third trimester of pregnancy, recovering from labour, and adjusting to postpartum / life with a newborn.
To be even more specific, this would cover the months of April to September (full-months of each).
For context, I am writing this blog post in mid-January 2025, where it will be published on my Blog in the beginning of May, so I am already about 3.5 months ahead of my blogging-content schedule, which I think is FAB considering I only embarked on this mission (to batch as much content as possible ahead of time) from the start of December 2024, so about 1.5 months of being at-it!
I will make a separate blog post on my specific weekly metrics, and goals-by-month, to make sure I would successfully batch 6-months of content ahead of time, alongside a 9-to-5, and whilst being 6 months pregnant (should be out by the time you read this!).
However, to not make this blog post alone too intensive, I will briefly cover the fundamentals of batching content ahead for your Blog, combined with picking-up on the key tips on time-management and consistency from my previous blog posts (mentioned at the start of this post):
create content ONLY when you are in a state to provide value
think about taking advantage of the pockets of your productivity, instead of fixed time-blocks (you can’t always schedule-in creativity)
stimulate your inspiration by filling your cup so you can blog passionately; blog post ideas will just come streaming through you at a much faster rate because of this
establish metrics for your blogging needs; a number of blog posts you need to batch-create ahead to fulfil your needs (for example, 4 blog posts to be 1-month ahead of content)
ALL this allows you to stay authentic as a Blogger, whilst also fulfilling your Blogging NEEDS.
These tips for batching content ahead helps you increase the number of blog posts you create, whilst simultaneously attaining the highest-quality in the value and creativity you share with your readers and blogging community.
THIS WAY, you will be achieving the number of blog posts you want each month, to fulfil the volume of content you need, given your current posting frequency.
CONTENT CALCULATIONS for my personal blogging batch NEEDS are:
I post 1 high-quality blog post every week, on Friday
I need 6 FULL months worth of blogging content batched ahead
So, I need a total of 26 blog posts: counted by Friday
Now, you might be thinking “okay…but can I schedule blog posts?”.
The answer is YES.
You don’t have to ACTIVELY be on your Blog to publish all your batched content. It’s all about PASSIVE blogging…
passive blogging
If you batch and schedule your content, then your Blog will be passively running, without you having to do a SINGLE. THING.
And THAT, ladies, is the art of passive blogging.
This is the PERFECT BLOGGING plan to make sure you can keep growing your Blog during pregnancy, postpartum, and life with a newborn.
Even if you don’t batch and schedule content, for as far-ahead as I have planned, it is completely fine and up-to-you to personalise this strategy to your OWN personal needs!
Integrating this blogging tactic into your strategy is not only beneficial for you, during this transitionary period of maternity, but of your life in general, since we want to have our Blogs provide us with passive, and full-time income, as soon as possible. SO, being able to navigate the skill that is balancing Blogging and life with a baby, will build your resilience for any other future times where you may need to juggle business with personal life.
This empowers us to tap-into our entrepreneurial selves a lot more firmly, since being an entrepreneur is about being able to problem-solve, adapt, but also have our online business run passively for us, so we can gain back our time, whilst earning passive income from our Blogs, in the background!
The ONLY part of my blogging business that I will be actively managing throughout these 6-months of ‘blogging maternity leave’, is the marketing aspect of my Blog, on my Pinterest.
I LOVE Pinterest for its scheduling feature, and not only, but it does only allow you to schedule pins for the 30-days ahead of you; meaning I would need to stay on-top of batch-scheduling once a month, to make sure my blog posts are being reached by girlies who would be interested in my kind-of content. However, this is okay with me, and would only require me to pull-off 1 day a month throughout this postpartum period, which I think is doable; even if I am completely exhausted.
As you can see, this is the EXACT STEP-BY-STEP of how I will keep blogging during pregnancy and how I plan to keep blogging during postpartum, and beyond!
♡
It may sound like it’s not doable at-first, but where there’s a will, there’s a way, and I’m here to show you the easiest way possible to still keep blogging even during a time where you think you wouldn’t be able to!
By using the power of introspection, prioritising, establishing your blogging needs, doing some calculations to map-out your content batch figures, and scheduling; you can really pull this off!
It might sound like quite an intensive process, but I PROMISE YOU, it will be worth it!
If you’re struggling to find that blogging motivation, then just try to think-ahead to the day when you will need to return back to your 9-to-5, from your maternity leave… how much your soul will HURT… wouldn’t you want all of your Blogging efforts and passion to pay-off, and have you achieve your self-employed DREAM REALITY?
And LOOK, I am not saying you won’t feel the urge to blog as soon as you are even 2-months into life with a newborn, but this is just precautionary, and how long I LIKE to establish; to give enough time to not feel the pressures of keeping up with my Blog, during the uncertain times of being a new mum.
However, chances are, if you have that PASSION FOR YOUR BLOG, as I do, you will probably want to keep blogging as soon as you have recovered postpartum.
But it’s always best to be pleasantly surprised by our capability, postpartum, and batch content ahead, just so our Blogs don’t suffer, as a result.
This is just one, of the many ways, we can choose to take control of our own narratives, and not abdicate of OUR dreams for motherhood, specially when it was an unplanned and unwanted one, as it was for me.
We could give-up on everything, or we could let is fuel us to CHASE our dreams, even harder.
Let this always be a firm reminder to our daily mantras…
Own your Womanhood. Own your Time.
♡
I’ll be logging updates throughout this whole journey as a mother-to-be, working to be an entrepreneur, but to also still preserve the girlhood within, to try and be her best self, and live her happiest life, so keep-up with me through the blog!
I release a new blog post every Friday at 1pm! (UK-time)
Let me know if you’re in a similar headspace (pregnant or not), being in our 20s is confusing, and taking control of our story is the only way we can take ownership of our happiness and live out our dream life.
I document my unwanted pregnancy journey at 25, taking control of my narrative, figuring out being a girl in my 20s, chasing my dream life, and conquering my boss babe dream of becoming a self-employed, entrepreneur / Blogger!
